Character AI group chats quickly became a beloved feature for many users, allowing multiple AI characters to interact with each other and one user simultaneously. This opened up a world of creative possibilities, from role-playing scenarios with a whole cast of characters to simulating conversations among fictional groups. The dynamic interactions and often unpredictable responses from multiple AIs created engaging and unique experiences that single-character chats couldn't replicate.
However, a significant change occurred in January 2025 when Character AI removed the ability for multiple *human users* to participate in a single group chat alongside the AI characters. While users can still create group chats with multiple AIs, the collaborative aspect involving more than one person was discontinued. This decision was met with disappointment by the community, as it limited the potential for shared storytelling, collaborative role-playing, and simply enjoying the AI interactions together with friends.
The loss of the multi-user feature has left many users missing the shared experiences they once enjoyed. Bringing back the ability for multiple users to join a single group chat would significantly enhance the platform's interactive potential and restore a key social element. It would allow friends and communities to build narratives, explore scenarios, and witness the fascinating dynamics of multiple AIs together, fostering a more connected and collaborative environment.
If you miss the multi-user group chat feature, please consider sending feedback or support tickets to Character AI requesting its return. Let them know how valuable this feature was to your experience!
